2023: Ohanaeze, Church Leaders To Hold Rallies In Five States For Igbo Presidency
Ohanaeze Ndigbo and some church leaders have fixed December 27 for street rallies to campaign for Igbo presidency in 2023.
They also said they had concluded arrangements to write President Muhammadu Buhari, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to notify them of the need to zone the 2023 presidency to the region.
They said the rallies would be held in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states simultaneously.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chairman in the Diaspora, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, disclosed this in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Punch reports.
He said, "Those we are considering for the presidential seat from Igbo are present and past governors, senators and House of Representatives members from the zone who are performers.
"We envision a Nigeria where leadership is based on the ability to work hard, where fairness reigns with a sense of direction and accountability to the various groups and for the common good of the country.
"It's now the turn of the South-East to provide good leadership for the good of all Nigerians to move Nigeria in a positive direction."
Anakwenze noted that the Igbo would need the support of other regions to produce the next president.
"We believe in alignment. We cannot get the presidency by ourselves, even if all the Igbo vote. We are already working with people from other zones, and we are in talks with them already," he said.
In a related manner, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, will lead a delegation of the pro-Biafra group, Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra, and other youth groups to meet with Buhari regarding the Igbo presidency in 2023.
MASSOB leader, Mr Uchenna Madu, disclosed this on Friday at the Government House, Enugu, after a joint meeting with the governors of the region, leaders of thought, ministers and National Assembly members as well as traditional and religious leaders from the region.
Madu, who read a 10-point demand of the Igbo youths, had earlier demanded that the Ndigbo should be allowed to produce a president in 2023.
"We demand that the South-East be allowed to produce the president of Nigeria in 2023," he said.
Meanwhile, former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okoroch, says South-East political leaders have resolved to shelve their party differences to work for the interest of the region ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Okorocha, who spoke on the sidelines of the South-East leaders meeting held in Enugu on Thursday night, disclosed that Igbo leaders had also decided to properly mentor and empower the youths in readiness to take over from them.

The Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has released a young woman who was detained in the hospital for six months over unpaid bills. It was gathered that the patient, Bidemi Taiwo was admitted in the hospital on March 23, 2020. She gave birth to a baby boy through cesearan section but lost the child.Since then authorities of the UBTH detained her over non-payment of the bills said to be over five hundred thousand naira. A lawyer, Jefferson Woghiren who took up the case, confirmed the latest development on Saturday, October 31. "Breaking!!!! University Of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Benin finally submitted to superior reason this morning, as Miss Bidemi Taiwo, has been Ordered to leave the hospital. We demand the release of other similarly imprisoned patients. Poverty is not a crime" he wrote. Bidemi's father, a peasant farmer Mr Sunday Oyebamiji has thanked the management of the UBTH for their magnanimity in writing off the debt which, as at August 2020, accrued to about six hundred thousand Naira. He also appreciated Mr Jefferson and his team for their support. Meanwhile, Mr Jefferson in a statement issued in Benin City on October 29, said that it is a criminal offense to detain a patient over a civil debt without court order. "It is a criminal offense to detain a patient, in a hospital, by hospital management, or their agents, due to debts accumulated by a patient, in consequences of health care treatment. Nobody, I repeat, nobody is permitted to detain a debtor, over a civil debt, without the order of court, which is unlawful," the statment reads. "The management of UBTH, Benin City, is liable in law, for false imprisonment, emotional distress and agony, in a civil action, and of kidnapping, assault and breach of public peace in a criminal charge. A patient and doctor relationship is contractual, bound by the Law of Contract "Doctors offer services to patients in legitimate expectations of payments. Breaches or Inability to fulfill contractual obligations, cannot result in the detention and imprisonment of one party, in a private facility, by the other, personally or by their agents, in consequences of same "There is no law, that makes services provided by doctors, either public or private, exceptional, and above the Law of Contract. Reverend Polycarp Zongo, a pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, Jos, Plateau State, who was kidnapped by the Islamic State In West Africa (ISWAP) around Bauchi-Gombe road, has been released. Pastor Zongo was released on Friday evening, October 30, through an undisclosed process, officials say. Details about his release are yet to be disclosed, however, it was gathered that he communicated with his wife to confirm his release. 
The pastor, who went missing while travelling to Gombe State for a conference, had appeared in a video this week saying he was abducted by the Islamic State West Africa Province.Pastor Zango said he was in the custody of the insurgents alongside two other Christian women, who were also abducted.In the video, the cleric seen seated behind a prayer mat, said he was abducted on Monday, October 19, 2020. “My name is Reverend Polycap Zongo and I am a pastor at COCIN LCC Wild Life Park, Plateau State, Nigeria. On October 19, 2020, I was travelling for a conference in Gombe when I was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents who caught me on the road. Right now I am with them," he said.“I am appealing to the governor of Plateau State, Simon Boko Lalong, and the Senator of Plateau North, Barrister ID Gyang, and the Christian Association of Nigeria and COCIN Church to please help save me from their hands. They also abducted two Christian women who are also here with me, we are appealing to be rescued.” he added. The Police Service Commission has faulted the refusal of some policemen to return to work following the killing of about 22 cops during the violence that erupted in the wake of the #EndSARS crisis. The PSC who encouraged the policemen with low morale to put the killing of their colleagues behind them, stated that the Public Service Rules which also applies to members of the Nigeria Police Force, prescribes dismissal for any officer that deserts his job. The commission averred that the attack on policemen by hoodlums should not be an excuse for them to stay away from work. It however stressed that policemen did not deserve to be killed and should in fact be protected as they are also humans. Revealing why the attack on policemen is not good for the country, PSC spokesperson, Mr Ikechukwu Ani told Punch; “When you make Nigeria lawless and ungovernable, there would be a situation nobody would be able to control.“The Nigeria Police Force is part of the public service and the public service is guided by the Public Service Rules. If you don’t come to work without permission, the punishment is dismissal if it is proven.“The police as public servants are guided by the rules; so, they cannot on their own say they won’t go to work. Although, the Police Service Commission is also working to make sure they are protected because they are human beings; their lives also matter.” The PSC also cautioned against further attacks on law enforcement agents as it might degenerate to anarchy. The caretaker chairman of Iganna Local Council Development Area of Oyo State, Mr Olayiwola Adeleke has regained freedom after spending days in kidnappers' den. A renowned Zambian medical doctor, Dr. Tasila Mercy Tembo has been found murdered days after she went missing. Her estranged soldier boyfriend is suspected to be behind the brutal murder. The decapidated body of Dr. Tembo,47, was discovered on Tuesday, October 27, in Lusaka's Mikango Barracks area. 
Her family reported to the Police that she went missing on Saturday, October 24. They said she and her estranged boyfriend had a quarrel the very day she went missing. The remains of Dr. Tembo was buried on Thursday, October 29, at memorial park in Lusaka because of the extent of decomposition of the body. Acting Police Spokesperson Danny Mwale who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, October 31, said her body was discovered in a decomposed state covered with leaves in Nanking Army Training Centre in Mikango Barracks area. 
Mr. Mwale said the police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect identified as Lieutenant Nigel Mwaba aged 33 of Zambia Army in Lusaka.“Police in Lusaka received a report of a missing person in which it was reported that a female identified as Dr. Tasila Tembo aged 47 of Plot number 1732 Meanwood, Ibex Hill went missing. This occurred on October 24, 2020 around 16 hours,” Mwale said.He said the body was temporarily buried and is awaiting Post-mortem to be conducted at the University Teaching Hospital.

Two dismissed soldiers and others arrested in connection to the attack on a bullion van which left 4 policemen dead in Ebonyi state, have narrated how their operation was cordinated by one Clement Abanara aka Millions from Ikoyi prison in Lagos, where he is remanded. The two dismissed soldiers have been identified as Ayeni Samuel and Emeka Ariston, and it was learnt that they were arrested alongside Abanara’s cousin, Alfred Robinson and four others identified as Sunday Solemu, Abuchi Alfred, Emeka Ilo and Ekene Igbanifore by the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team while they were reportedly planning to rob a commercial bank in Asaba, Delta State. The gang members who a general-purpose machine gun, six AK-47 rifles, 51 magazines, 1,620 rounds of live ammunition, two vehicles and charms were recovered from, were accused of collecting a Toyota Lexus and a 4Runner from their owners who were kidnapped in Owerri, Imo State and released after payment of N5m as ransom. Abanara who was remanded in prison custody after being arrested by the IRT four years ago on robbery charges, allegedly took part in bank robberies in Lekki, Ikorodu, Festac and Agbara areas of Lagos where millions of naira were carted away. Narrating how he joined the robbery gang, one of the dismissed soldiers Ayeni said; “I joined the Nigeria Army in 2003 and I was dismissed because I took part in an illegal duty. After my dismissal in 2014, I had no job then I was introduced to Millions (Abanara) who is in prison. He linked me up with his cousin Robinson. Millions said he wanted me to provide military cover during operations and I brought in my colleague, Ariston.“We went for the operation in our uniforms. We were unlucky the bullion van escaped from the scene. I also took part in a robbery operation in Awka, Anambra, the next day and I got N150,000 as my share. I was arrested while we were making plans to rob another bullion van in Asaba.” Robinson on the other hand disclosed they shot the policemen after being caught unawares. He further revealed that they proceeded to robbing a recharge card dealer of N7.5m and other valuables in Awka, Anambra after the failed bullion van robbery operation in Ebonyi state. The suspect who is a father of four also admitted taking part in the 2015 bank robbery in the Lekki area of Lagos of which he got a N5m cut. Robinson said; “I am from Gelegele Local Government Area of Edo State and I am married and have four children. I was a logger before I went into illegal oil bunkering. It was my cousin, Millions, who introduced me into oil bunkering. He is from my mother’s family. “I invested the N5m I got from the Lekki bank robbery in oil bunkering from. I was doing the ‘business’ when my friend, Sunday Soyemi, brought the Ebonyi State bullion van robbery. I called my cousin in prison and he gave me all the guidelines I needed for the operation.“He connected me with the ex-soldiers and they participated in the operation. He advised us not to use our vehicles for the operation and we followed his instructions. Soyemi brought the guns and dynamite we used for the operation but the operation failed because we weren’t prepared at the time the bullion van got to our spot. We exchanged fire with the police escort and the van escaped.” 46-year-old Soyem also blamed the failed bullion van robbery on the policemen who opened fire on them. He said; “We weren’t prepared when the bullion van and the escort approached our location. They opened fire on us and we shot back but the van escaped. We killed four of the policemen and left Ebony State immediately.“We proceeded to Awka and robbed a man of N7.5m. We were in Asaba strategising on a bank to rob when the police swooped on us.”The post 
Pastor Laurie Idahosa has shared her experience after a worrisome mammogram she underwent in the United States. Recounting how she lost both of her grandmothers to breast cancer because it wasn't detected early enough, Laurie said the doctors found something worrisome on both of her breasts and asked her to come back for a repeat mammogram and an ultrasound of her breasts. She however disclosed that she went into a prayer mode, praying that whatever they found would be gone by the time she had a repeat test. The cleric revealed that the doctor who reviewed the images thereafter, told her that "whatever was there before is not there now." Laurie Idahosa who expressed gratitude to God over the healing, told her female followers to be proactive with their breast health as early detection saves lives. She wrote; PERSONAL TESTIMONY ALERT! The military morgue which members of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Restitution for Victims of SARS and related abuses and Other Matters were initially denied access into as part of the ongoing investigation into the Lekki shootings, has been found to be undergoing some renovation. Recall that the panel led by its chairman, Justice Doris Okuwobi (retd.) were initially denied access to the hospital for about 30 minutes before they were allowed into the premises. Daily Trust has now reported that military officials told the panel that the morgue has been under renovation since late 2019. It was gathered that Brigadier General AI Taiwo and Colonel G.S Ogoh took the panel to the morgue where the ongoing renovation was confirmed. This is coming after a member of the panel, Mr. Ebun Adegboruwa (SAN) said they got an impromptu confidential information that the facility at the hospital may be relevant to its investigation. He said the panel is interested in visiting the morgue to assess bodies in the facility. The panel however left the facility after a brief discussion between a senior military officer and Justice Okuwobi (Rtd) without entertaining questions from journalists. Nigerian singer, 2Face has lashed out at the Nigerian government over the proposed regulation of social media. Speaking in a video he shared on Instagram, the singer said;if the Nigerian government was responsible, they you would have blocked foreign social media apps and safeguarded apps developed by Nigerians. According to 2Face, that is the "true regulation". He also pointed out that there are many tech gurus in Nigeria who stopped pushing because they couldn't compete with foreign apps. 2Face noted that the country would have been the best place for indigenous apps to thrive because of the huge market. The Canadian Government has announced plans to bring in more than 1.2 million immigrants over the next three years in an effort to use immigration to boost the country's economic recovery from the impacts of COVID-19. The announcement was made on Friday, October 30, by Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino in Canada’s Immigration Levels Plans for 2021-2023. Speaking at a news conference in Ottawa, Mendicino said the federal government aims to accept 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, another 411,000 in 2022, and then 421,000 in 2023. According to Mendicino, the numbers also aim to compensate for the shortfall this year due to the pandemic and represent about one percent of Canada's population. He also stated that immigrants drive the population and economic growth that pays for vital programs such as health care. "Put simply, we need more workers, and immigration is the way to get there," he said. “Before the pandemic, our government’s goal to drive the economy forward through immigration was ambitious. Now it’s simply vital,” said Mendicino. The minister said he's confident the government can meet the targets despite the COVID-19 pandemic, by working around travel restrictions while adhering to safety measures such as mandatory quarantines for immigrants coming in. "With nearly 60 percent of all new admissions in the economic class, our plan will continue to focus on Canada's economic growth," he said. The breakdown of next year's plan includes:232,000 immigrants in the economic class.103,500 in the family class.59,500 refugees and protected persons.5,500 on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. Singer Simi is of the opinion that Nigerians shouldn't be raining curses on the children of politicians in the country. According to Simi, raining curses on them wouldn't be good for their mental health. Taing to her Twitter handle, she wrote; ''I feel like we really shouldn't be raining curses on the children of these people. I understand the agitation and that most of them don't care about us, but the goal is to be better than them and I can't imagine it's good for the mental health of them kids. We can rise above it.''
