Hunt for men filmed brutally punching and kicking victim in middle of road (video)
A group of thugs were filmed punching and kicking a man in the street before his wallet and keys were stolen. A manhunt has been launched for the attackers. Officers said the victim, 40, was attacked on Corporation Street, Birmingham, at 6pm on Sunday June 28. Shocking footage of the attack shows him lying in the middle of the road as one man climbs on top of him and repeatedly strikes his head. Another then appears to be stamping on his face. 
He was taken to hospital after the ordeal, where he was treated for head injuries, a badly bruised eye and possible facial fractures. West Midlands Police have now released the footage as part of an appeal to find the man’s attackers. They are urging anyone with information about the incident to get in touch. 
A force spokesperson said: "The shocking footage shows several people witnessing and filming the incident and we would urge them to contact us as soon as possible so that we can identify those involved." Detective Inspector Gemma Currie added: "We’re horrified at the violence used towards this man who simply curled himself into a ball to escape the onslaught. "Footage shows several people in the area who may have footage or information which could assist and there will be many more who recognise them. "This could have ended far worse than it has and we would urge you to do the right thing and contact us." Recall that President Buhari last week recommended the sack of the National Working Committee NWC of his party and this was immediately implemented at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which took place in the statehouse Abuja. Reacting to this development, Afenifere asked President Buhari to apply the same swiftness that was used in sacking his party's NWC to also dismiss the service chiefs. Lamenting about the escalating cases of kidnapping, banditry, and acts of terrorism by Boko Haram insurgents in the country, Afenifere while speaking through its spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, wondered why the president continued to allow the service chiefs remain in office.“It is clear that we have lost the war against Boko Haram insurgents even though the Federal Government has made so much propaganda about their exploits against Boko Haram. On a daily basis, it is becoming clearer that Boko Haram is on top of us.We need to get back to the drawing board, to devise strategies to contain these criminals; otherwise, Nigeria may go under with these insurgents.” the statement read Afenifere urged the president to go beyond scolding the security chiefs and relieve them of their duties. A Nigerian lady has recounted how she was almost kidnapped as she was about boarding a tricycle at Jakande Estate in Isolo, Lagos. According to @Chioma_Ajebota, some men who approached her, accused her of "flying their colour" amid a cult war they claimed was ongoing in the area. She said she realized they wanted to kidnap when they tried forcing her into a tricycle, which was when she ran for her life. The 100% hike in electricity tariff slated to commence Wednesday, July 1, has been put on hold. This comes after the National Assembly leadership’s intervention at a meeting with the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), the National Electricity Regulatory Agency (NERC) and others in the power chain, Monday night, June 29. The DisCos announced over the weekend that the tariff pushed forward from April 1 would take effect from July 1. Customers protested the planned increase but the DisCos insisted that only a “cost-reflective” tariff could guarantee their survival to keep the power sector afloat. At Monday’s meeting, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and House of Representatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila promised to take the DisCos’ request to President Muhammed Buhari and urged them to push the tariff raise till Aprill 2021. In a statement, Special Adviser (Media) to the Senate President, Ola Awoniyi, said the National Assembly leadership was emphatic at the meeting that the timing of the hike was wrong. The statement added that the National Assembly leadership told the DisCos that they were not opposed to cost reflective tariff for the power sector to attract the much-needed investment. The DisCos also admitted that they were not fully prepared for the planned tariff hike although they desired it. The statement added that the National Assembly leaders promised the electricity distributors that they would meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue. The statement said: “The agreement here is that there is not going to be any increase in tariff on July 1. “The Senate President and the Speaker are going to take appropriate action and meet with the President. “We are in agreement here that there is no question on the justification of the increase but the time is simply not right and appropriate measures need to be put in place. “So, between now and the first quarter of next year, our task will be to work together with you to ensure that we put those blocks in place to support the eventual increase in tariffs.” The statement quoted Lawan as saying that the government had been doing a lot as part of its obligation to provide some forms of Intervention. He said: “I’m quite aware that for this year, probably starting from last year, over N600 billion was earmarked for this sector to improve. “The potential increase in the tariff is definitely something that will be of concern to us in the National Assembly. “There is too much stress in the lives of Nigerians today and indeed across the world because of the challenges imposed by COVID-19 pandemic and even before then, we had issues that would always make it tough for our people to effectively pay the tariff. “One way or the other, for this business to flourish, for this sector to be appropriately fixed, for it to attract investment, something has to give way, there is no doubt about that but it is also crucial that we look at the timing for any of our actions.” According to the statement, Gbajabiamila said the National Assembly was on the same page with the DisCos on the issue of cost reflective tariff. Gbajabiamila added: “There is time for everything. A well-intended programme or policy of government can fall flat on the face and never recover if you do it at a wrong time. “Whatever will affect this government is something that should concern all of us. I think this will affect this government. “The timing. I think it will affect the Muhammadu Buhari government and if it is going to affect his government, we should all rally around our people, our President and the government to make sure we do the right thing, “The good thing is that we have agreed that we need to do something about the cost of electricity.” The representatives of the DisCos said the government should be ready to continue to bear the difference in the present tariff and what was considered as the appropriate tariff.The post 
A Twitter user has raised alarm of a Nigerian man still being kept in prison for 6 years without trial after he was "wrongfully" arrested while charging his laptop at his neighbour's house. @hausa_girl who identified the Nigerian man as "Junior" said the criminal the police arrested during a raid at the apartment confirmed Junior was innocent, but they refused to release him. She tweeted; This guy has been in maximum prison for six years without trial. He went to charge his laptop in his neighbour's house. That was how he was raided with the guy. Junior is not a criminal.. Six years of his life is wasted and he's still awaiting trial.The criminal they arrested told them Junior was innocent but they didn't release him. Two members of a robbery gang have been arrested while fleeing and their herbalist was also arrested. The suspects reportedly fled their hideout three weeks ago when men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ogun State Police Command, stormed the Adesan area of Mowe in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Monday that the suspected robbers, Saheed Bello and Bello Sadiq, were arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, while their herbalist, Ibrahim Rasheed, was apprehended in Osun State on Monday, June 29. The PPRO said the suspects were arrested three weeks after four of their gang members were apprehended in their hideout in Mowe. He added that the gang were responsible for a number of robbery cases around Mowe/Ofada. He said, “Saheed Bello, who is the leader of the gang, and Bello Sadiq were traced to the Academy area of Ibadan based on intelligence investigation embarked upon by the CSP Tijani Mohammed-led SARS and they were apprehended. “Their arrest led to the arrest of one Ibrahim Rasheed, who is the gang’s herbalist in Ile-Ogbo, Osun State.” According to the PPRO, one locally-made single-barrelled pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the probe of the policemen who allegedly arrested D'banj's rape accuser, Seyitan Babatayo. The IGP gave the order in a letter signed on his behalf by his Principal Staff Officer, DCP Idowu Owohunwa and addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Criminal Investigation Department, Garki. The IGP's letter was sequel to a petition written by Seyitan’s lawyer, Ojoge, Omileye and Partners. In the IGP's letter titled "Re: Petition Against Inspector Abraham, Supol Ugowe and the Entire Police Officers Team at Ikeja, Lagos Division of the Inspector General of Police", the IGP asked that the petition from Seyitan Babatayo's lawyer be addressed. The petition from Babatayo's legal representative - Ojoge, Omileye and Partners - allege that policemen attached to the Intelligence Response Team arrested Seyitan on the directive of D’Banj and detained her for over 24 hours. It was also alleged that they denied her access to her phone and her lawyers and she was subjected to intimidation and psychological torture by the policemen. The petition read in part, “On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, our client was picked up alongside a friend, Favour, at her residence in Lagos by the officers of the Ikeja IGP IRT. The arrest was without any warrant and neither our client nor her friend, Favour, was informed of the reasons for their arrest. “According to our client, she was told to write a statement denying ever meeting with Mr. Oyebanjo (D’Banj) and to also state that she lied against the person of Mr. Oyebanjo. In actual fact, our client was about to write the statement which she believed would be a basis for her release when the counsel came in and stopped her from writing such a statement. "The counsel further informed the policemen that all actions to the alleged rape of our client in December 2018 by Mr. Oyebanjo have been transferred to the DIG FCID for a thorough investigation and that they need to stay the action.” The petition adds that the counsel told the policemen to release his client and he would bring her back to the station when she's needed but the policemen said Seyitan had not yet spent 24 hours in custody. The counsel returned the following day and alleged that D’Banj’s Manager, Damien Okoroafor, was present at the police office. He said that the process of bailing Seyitan had started before D'banj's manager, Okoroafor’s began ordering officers around. Because of this, the officers refused to release Seyitan and threatened to approach a magistrate court to obtain a remand order to detain Seyitan for two weeks. He said Seyitan was forced to delete all social media posts she had made about D’Banj and was also forced to make a public statement absolving D’Banj of rape which she did to gain her freedom.The post 
The Nigeria Police Force is currently in search of the families of three children, two girls and a boy, stolen from their families since June 2019. Frank Mba, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, told newsmen on Monday, June 29, that the three children were among six rescued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) in an operation that was launched following reported cases of child theft in the FCT. He said three of the rescued children have been reunited with their parents but the other three, pictured above, are yet to be reunited as their families cannot be located. “We were able to identify the parents of three of the six children and the police have reunited them with their families. According to a statement from the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Frank Mba, the suspects, Henry Terkula Gwa, 25, from Donga LGA of Benue State and Terhile Tsavbe, 30, from Gawa village, Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State were arrested on June 6 and 11, 2020, following intense search for the victims and manhunt for the perpetrators by the Police team. Mba said investigations by the police revealed that the criminal gang collected 7.5million naira as ransom from the families of the victims as a condition for their release. The suspects forced the late Dr Audu Benedict to issue them a cheque of N500,000.000 which they cashed in a commercial bank in Gboko town, Benue State. Subsequently, the suspects killed the three (3) victims and had them buried in a shallow grave at Gawa in Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State. While effort is being intensified to arrest other suspects still at large, the police team is on the verge of exhuming the remains of the slain victims. In a similar development, the Police have arrested 25 other criminal suspects for their involvements in varying cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and illegal possession of prohibited firearms currently under investigations. The suspects are members of high-profile criminal gangs terrorizing communities and major highways of the North-Central and North-West states of the country. Exhibits recovered by the police team from the suspects include: 6 AK47 rifles, three (3) locally fabricated pump action guns, One (1) locally fabricated pistol, 2 dane guns, 55 rounds of AK47 ammunition, 4 empty magazines, one (1) laptop computer and One (1) Toyota Corolla Car with REG No. MKD 13 RC. Mba said all the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.The post
