Great-great-grandmother celebrates her "25th birthday" today
A great-great-grandmother born on a leap year 100 years ago is celebrating her "25th" birthday this weekend. Doris Cleife actually turns 100 today but since she was born on February 29, it means she only gets it once every four years. Staff at Doris' Brunel Court care home in Portsmouth will throw a bash for Doris with local dignitaries, friends and residents all invited. Manager Katrina Morgan said: "We know that family means so much to Doris and they will all be celebrating with her at a private party on her actual birthday on Saturday but the residents here wanted to throw a surprise tea party as well. "We are delighted that we are able to share such a special moment with her and her friends here." At the surprise tea party, Doris was given a cake with the number "25" on top, since it's the 25th time in her life that her birth date, February 29th, has come around. 
Doris, a retired hairdresser, reacted to hitting 100 by telling PA news Agency: "I just take it as it comes, I can’t do much about it. "I honestly don’t know, I think to myself, I never dreamed I would get this far, I lost my mother when she was quite young and my granny died when she was 47 but here we are, and I have a sister who is 98. "I don’t feel any different. 
"I’ve waited all my life to be famous and now it happens like this." She added: "I am waiting for my letter from the Queen. "To be honest, I am feeling quite philosophical about becoming 100, but I am looking forward to spending time with my new friends and my family." North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un has warned that there will be 'serious consequences' if the deadly coronavirus spreads to his country. At a ruling party meeting, Kim called for the country's anti-epidemic headquarters to strengthen screening and tests and seal off all 'channels and space through which the infectious disease may find its way,' Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency said on Saturday. 'In case the infectious disease spreading beyond control finds its way into our country, it will entail serious consequences,' the agency quoted Kim as saying during the politburo meeting of the Workers' Party. It was also reported that he also called for the strict enforcement of preventive measures against the 'tricky' virus that spreads rapidly and emphasized that all fields and units of the country should 'unconditionally' obey quarantine instructions laid-out by the anti-epidemic headquarters. Kim's comments on the virus comes a day after South Korea confirmed 571 new cases of Coronavirus on Friday to take their number to 2,337, the highest in the world outside China, where the disease emerged from. The French-Polish film director, 86, is currently facing a series of rape accusations, which he has repeatedly denied. In the late 1970s, Polansk fled the United States before he was sentenced after admitting raping a 13-year-old girl. At the ceremony which took place in Paris on Friday night amid protests by women's rights activists, Polanski, who received 12 nominations was awarded in his absence, the best director award for his latest film, 'An Officer and a Spy.' Former England/Liverpool footballer Daniel Sturridge is suing his former landlords for racial discrimination after finding a Netflix account that was labelled “n****r”. and is seeking damages totalling £100,000.. Sturridge rented a mansion of Alan O’Neill and his wife Katie 2018 when he played for Liverpool and was paying a whooping £18,500-a-month for the house. Sturridge and his girlfriend Jamilla were 'deeply upset' when they opened a netflix account and it was labelled 'ni****' , but the landlord says the account belonged to his11-year-old child who was a fan of rap music. 
Court documents filed at Manchester county court seen by the Times show that Sturridge discovered the Netflix account on November 24 and moved out on February 14.His landlord ensured Sturridge paid outstanding rent up to the end of the yearly agreement by issuing a statutory demand for £67,000 at the county court, which Sturridge paid in July 2019 but days later Sturridge and his partner filed a separate claim for £100,000 for “special damages in respect of the defendants’ discrimination against them and/or harassment of them on the grounds of their race” contrary to the Equality Act.The landlord has apologized to Sturridge and his partner but the case is still in court. According to a new report, Filmmaker Tyler Perry, has received the results of a new autopsy he ordered to be carried out on his nephew Gavin Porter who died on Tuesday night in a prison cell.Tyler's nephew, Gavin Porter, 26, was serving a 20-year-sentence for shooting his father dead in front of his mother, who is Tyler Perry's sister, and on Tuesday night was found hanging in his cell from a bedsheet. The prison officials say he committed suicide but Tyler Perry was having none of it and hired Dr. Michael Baden, a famed pathologist who has been involved in numerous cases, including JFK, O.J. Nigeria's veteran women’s table tennis player, Funke Oshonaike, has set a new African record by becoming the first African woman to qualify for a 7th Olympic event and has revealed she will retire from the game after participating in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.Oshonaike, 45, defeated Cameroon’s Sarah Hannfou 4-1 (12-10, 11-4, 4-11, 11-7, 11-6) in the deciding match of the ITTF-Africa Top 16 Cup in Tunisia to make it to the table tennis event of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. 
Oshonaike who made her Olympics debut in 1996 said; “I enjoyed every day I spent at the Games Village , it was an experience I will always cherish because it shows how the world should look like, everybody is the same,” Oshonaike, was quoted on ITTF-Africa’s Twitter handle.“We share things and we unite in the Village. I look at that experience at what the world should look like. Uche Ibiam, a former aide of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his cousin, Enyinnaya Ibiam (Jr) during a People's Democratic Party (PDP) local government primary. The suspect who was the Coordinator of Ubeyi Development Centre In Afikpo North Local Government Area before the incident, was accused of clashing with his younger brother, Ogbonnaya Ibiam, who before the primary election was a Technical Assistant to Governor David Umahi. Uche was accused of masterminding the violence during the primary election and firing a gunshot at his own brother which struck and killed Enyinnaya instead. The Ebonyi state police command's spokesperson, Loveth Idah confirmed the arrest of the suspect who has sacked by Governor Umahi alongside his brother on Friday February 28. Minister of Health, Ehanire Osagie has disclosed that they have received the treatment procedure for coronavirus (Covid-19) from China. Osagie made the announcement on Friday February 28, while also revealing that China did that out of its good gesture and relationship with Nigeria. The Minister also disclosed that the Asian country has successfully treated over 4,000 cases of the deadly disease. He said; “China knows more about the disease and they have made some successful treatments. “We have received a lot of cooperation from the ambassador of China who had come to visit twice to reassure us of his commitment and to give us the support in anyway.“They have sent us a treatment protocol because they have succeeded in treating over four or five thousand people in their country and we have sent the protocol to our centres here to study and add what they already know. They have shared the treatment procedures with Nigeria and this will assist in the treatment of confirmed cases.” Ehanire averred that they will keep watching out for new information and results from ongoing researches on the virus and updating when necessary. The World Health Organization on Friday February 28, upgraded the global risk from the new coronavirus to its highest level. The United Nations organization stated that the continued increase in cases and countries affected was “clearly of concern”. World Health Organization chief,Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told newsmen; “We have now increased our assessment of the risk of spread and the risk of impact of COVID-19 to very high at global level. “We do not see evidence as yet that the virus is spreading freely in communities. As long as that’s the case, we still have a chance of containing this virus.“The key to containing this virus is to break the chain of transmission. Our greatest enemy is not the virus itself, it’s fear, rumours and stigma and our greatest assets are facts, reason and solidarity.” Tedros also revealed that 20 vaccines were in development globally and several treatments were in clinical trials with results expected “in a few weeks”. He however warned that people do not need to wait for vaccines and therapeutics, stressing that there are things every individual can do to protect themselves and others. The WHO Chief also announced that the WHO-China Joint Mission has published its report, which is available in English on the WHO website. He said the report includes a wealth of information and 22 recommendations for China, for affected and unaffected countries, for the international community and the general public. He added; “It calls for all countries to educate their populations, to expand surveillance, to find, isolate and care for every case, to trace every contact, and to take an all-of-government and all-of-society approach – this is not a job for the health ministry alone. “Your risk depends on where you live, your age and general health. President Buhari has approved the retirement of head of service, Winifred Oyo-Ita who is currently being investigated over allegation of N3 billion contract scam levelled against her . Secretary of the government to the federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha confirmed the approval of Oyo-Ita's retirement in a statement issued by Olusegun Adekunle, the permanent secretary (general services) on Friday February 28. The President stated that he approved Oyo-Ita's retirement without prejudice to the on-going investigation against her. Folasade Yemi-Esan, who has been the acting head of service has also been appointed in substantive capacity. The statement reads in part; “In approving the retirement, President Muhammadu Buhari affirmed that it would be without prejudice to the on-going investigations into certain allegations against the immediate past head of the civil Service of the federation. “He thanked her for the invaluable services to the nation and wished her well in all future endeavors. The Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), taskforce on illegal road blocks this week arrested eight suspected impostors for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting tax payers. The suspects, Mnder Terlumun, Terese Tumase and Gandepuun Agabi were arrested at Gbanyam in Buruku LGA.

A faint picture of the Italian man being treated for Coronavirus at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital in Lagos where he is being isolated, has been shared online by the Lagos Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi. 
Professor Abayomi who visited the man at the Isolation center, shared the photos on his Twitter handleI visited the #COVID19 patient a male Italian national who is isolated at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, where he is been managed by our well trained staff. I spoke to him and assured him of the Lagos state government's resolve to ensure he gets adequate care'' he wrote“While at the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, I took time to inspect the ongoing renovation of the isolation wards. The renovation should be completed in a couple of days. I am satisfied with the renovation and preparedness work in the hospital,” he added.

The 44-year-old Italian man diagnosed with Coronavirus in Lagos, allegedly attempted to escape from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos of Friday February 28th. Punch reports that Health workers at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, said the Italian man threatened to leave over the poor condition of facilities at the Isolation center. A senior staff of the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Italian man complained bitterly about the excessive heat and mosquitoes in the room where he is being isolated. “The patient wanted to run away yesterday (Friday). The Italian man, who seems to be an engineer, was very angry that the room where he was kept was very hot. There is nothing there (inside the isolation ward) aside from bed and hospital locker. He almost ran away and is still threatening to do that'' the Health worker who did not wear any personal protective equipment required of workers in such an environment said The anonymous health worker stated that the level of preparedness in Lagos State for infectious diseases such as Coronavirus and Lassa fever “is zero.” According to the staff, Lagos State did not have the facility to accommodate individuals who might have come in contact with the Italian, adding that the facility that is meant to accommodate both suspected and confirmed Coronavirus cases is still undergoing renovation “and might take a while” before it can function fully. The worker also revealed that the isolation area was a room in one of the wards, and that it was quickly vacated to accommodate the index case. “The only thing demarcating the room from other rooms in the ward is a red and white barricade tape. That is where the Italian man that tested positive to Coronavirus is kept. There is no single equipment inside that place. It is just like any other regular hospital room with a bed. That building you see that is being repainted is the original place meant to quarantine Coronavirus patients. As you can see, the place is not ready. The state government is just renovating it, despite the fact that the virus started spreading since December 2019. It is really sad that a country like Nigeria is never ready to medically contain infectious disease outbreak. This is why most health workers leave because they are predisposed to danger of infection.” the staff said Speaking further, the source said that the Mainland Hospital does not have a ready and designated facility to isolate and treat Lassa fever patients, much less Coronavirus. “The place meant for Lassa fever patient has been under construction in the past one month. It is not yet completed. As you can see, they are makeshift structures, hurriedly put together with white tarpaulin. They are not permanent structures and I don’t know how this place can actually accommodate humans that have a highly infectious disease like Lassa fever,” he said. The health worker added that indeed the state government has traced those the Italian man came in contact with in the state, however they allegedly have not been quarantined because the state lacks the requisite facility.“The standard medical operational procedure is to track all contacts and have them quarantined to avoid further spread of the virus. But we cannot do that here because we lack such facility, which is why there is emphasis on self quarantine.“Even where the Italian man is presently being isolated was a room vacated by a patient. I pray God saves us in the coming months because we are not ready for the danger posed by the Coronavirus.” the staff said A nurse at the facility, who appeared unconcerned by the situation on the ground, was seen walking out of the isolation area without wearing personal protective equipment. When asked why she was not wearing a face mask and gloves, she told a Punch Reporter;“What is coronavirus? Gloves and face masks cannot do anything. We have been working here for years with people that have deadly diseases. At last, all of us will die,” she said The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday held a press conference where he said the state government was ready to curtail the spread of the virus. It is, conversely, these qualities that are threatening to be his greatest Achilles' heel. Within the last five years of his stewardship, Pinnick has evolved as a leading figure in global football; being appointed first as a member of the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions (arguably the most important committee in the world football body) and later into the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee in 2017.The first and the only Nigerian that served as Match Commissioner in the last World Cup in Russia, he commissioned both a Semi Final and 3rd placed match. This got him the various appointments into FIFA and CAF. His stock also rose steeply following a surprise decision to abstain from the race to succeed Kwesi Nyantakyi on the FIFA Council, instead, allowing other qualified FA chiefs in Africa to battle for the slot. On the continent, he is revered for his interventions in enthroning a more transparent and better run CAF, and still being applauded and appreciated for being front and centre of the removal of former CAF president, Issa Hayatou who had spent almost three decades in the saddle and was adamant on remaining in office. If he wanted at the time, Pinnick would have become CAF president but he put Malagasy football administrator, Ahmad Ahmad, forward, at great personal risks. Pinnick is reportedly regretting supporting Ahmad but he is consoled by the fact that he championed the course of change in CAF Back home, the NFF dependence on government for funding reportedly reduced by 60 per cent and according to the Delta-born administrator, his target before leaving office is to make the NFF self-sufficient. Indeed, funding has been the greatest challenge of previous NFF administrations. While the situation is not totally different for Pinnick, he has devised ingenious ways of sourcing for funds. He brought in AITEO Energy Resources Limited, Nigeria’s leading energy solutions company, as Official Optimum Partner of the NFF which shelled out the money to pay salaries of coaches. In the first tranche, even coaches that were owed by previous NFF administrations were paid. The company then took up the sponsorship of the oldest football competition in the land – previously known by various names such as FA Cup, Challenge Cup and Federation Cup.

The Pinnick administration has also concentrated on enhancing the capacity of administrators, referees and coaches. About two dozen referees went for refresher programs in the United Kingdom in December 2014, and about the same number took their turn in February 2015. Another capacity-enhancing program took nearly 30 administrators to London in December 2015. Some coaches were specially trained in the world-renowned Pro-Zone software to enhance the performance of Nigerian teams in international competitions. Thanks to Pinnick, too, there have been a range of FIFA-supported courses and workshops for coaches, referees and administrators in the country in the past four years. The CAF ‘A’ coaching course for home-grown coaches was a first of its kind and benefitted over 80 coaches with highly-experienced resource persons in attendance. 
Under Pinnick, former Nigeria football stars have been highly considered for coaching positions with the various National Teams. Pinnick had so much confidence in former Eagles captain, Sunday Oliseh by appointing him Head Coach of the Super Eagles in July 2015 but the latter fell short of expectations by resigning abruptly. Former goalkeepers, Imama Amapakabo and Alloy Agu have been with the Super Eagles; Samson Siasia coached the U-23 boys; while Emmanuel Amuneke coached the U-17 and U-20 boys at different times. Manu Garba is the current coach of the U-17. The women are not left out. Florence Omagbemi, Perpetua Nkwocha and Ann Chiejine worked with the Super Falcons at different times. According to Pinnick, “The NFF recognizes and appreciates the great efforts of our footballers who have done well locally and internationally for the glory of our country. They are the most important aspect in the game because, without them, there will be no NFF, FIFA, sponsors, fans and others. The NFF will be putting in place the NFF Foundation principally to look into the welfare of players.”Not just that; he also set up the machinery to take care of retired footballers who are distressed. An example is Wilson Oruma who lost his fortune but has been assisted back to good health by Pinnick’s Brownhill Foundation. The foundation is his way of giving back to society. Those who know say that five per cent of earnings from his businesses is channelled to the foundation. Several students have been awarded scholarships and ex-sports personalities with health challenges have also benefited from this foundation. The legendary Segun Odegbami had to applaud Pinnick because some of the beneficiaries of theFoundation went through the Segun Odegbami's Sports College in Ewekoro. At the moment, Brownhill Foundation is rebuilding the football pitch, seating pavilions, classroom blocks, volleyball court and renovating the main administrative building in Hussey College, Warri, his alma mater. Instructively, the Pinnick administration has already started the construction of mini-secretariats for the Football Associations in each of the 36 States and the FCT. The first round of the project has already been concluded in six states (selected from each of the country’s geo-political zones), and construction has commenced in the second tranche of six states. This was part of the significant add-ons agreed with AITEO. When German giants, Adidas, refused to renew its agreement with the NFF following perceived failures of the previous administration to protect it from the ambush of rivals, and with Nigeria left with no choice than to be buying kits for its various National Teams, Pinnick reached out to his contacts and succeeded in bringing NIKE, another global player, into the fold. Following participation at the FIFA World Cup and the generally rising stock of Nigerian Football on and off the pitch, conversations moved to NIKE significantly improving the terms of the contract, and in November 2018, a robust, new contract was signed between the NFF and NIKE. Typical of the Nigerian Pull-Him-Down syndrome, Pinnick would soon become a victim of his successes. At the early stage of his second tenure, his opponents, supported by the former sports minister, Solomon Dalung, attempted to forcibly gain control of the NFF but after the intervention of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Nigeria was spared a worldwide ban by FIFA. Not satisfied, the opponents again wanted to use the retirement of the World Cup fund to cause more confusion but again the presidency stepped into the matter and a fresh crisis was averted. In May 2019, Nigeria’s Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property brought charges against Pinnick and other members of the NFF top brass over the alleged misappropriation of the $8.4 million (around R120 million) which FIFA paid Nigeria as a participation fee in the 2014 World Cup. Pinnick maintained his innocence, claiming victimisation. According to him, “The motive for this media trial is purely destructive; it’s a deep-seated emotional, obsessional and delusional hatred. This is not the first time. We believe all the false allegations are aimed at destroying our credibility and what we’ve built.” The charges were, however, withdrawn by the Federal Government who had taken over the case from the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on Recovery of Public Property (SPIP). It is interesting to note that despite all the allegations thrown against him and which have landed in court, Pinnick has always triumphed. Still, his detractors would not back off, preferring to distract him from his mission to put African football aright and in the right light. But Pinnick is seen by many as a child of destiny. And they have good grounds to believe so because he has survived both physical and spiritual attacks especially after his close shave with death after a firecracker accident that took out half of his face and had to be flown to London in an air ambulance in 2011 from Warri via Lagos. The legal attacks have also been unrelenting but he keeps surviving all. A former Super Eagles player, Chikelue Iloenyeosi, recently advanced reasons why he believes Nigeria should celebrate Pinnick rather than pander to the orchestrated moves to bring his name into disrepute. Since his emergence as chairman, Iloenyeosi said Pinnick has been buffeted with allegations of all kinds in the media and public space, with some of the issues ending up in court. “He has been the victim of high-grade envy, intense political schemes and vendetta. Before I came close to the NFF, I was like the other armchair critics who saw nothing good in the federation and thought all they were doing there was sharing money,” the former defender said. He added, “Since I started working with Mr. Pinnick, the NFF has never received up to N1 billion as allocation from the government. The money that comes from FIFA is about $1.2million, of which $700,000 is for infrastructure, with the rest broken into subheads like women football, youth development and leagues. “When you place this side-by-side with the responsibilities of catering for 11 national teams, most of which are always competitively engaged, you begin to wonder where all the outlandish figures that some persons are bandying around town as having been embezzled came from.” Iloenyeosi declared further that Pinnick and his team deserve kudos for their resourcefulness in getting some state governments to take the burden of sponsorship of some matches of the national teams as the Federal Government does not give monies for every match but intervenes only for critical tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup. He continued, “For the 65 months that he has been NFF President, Mr. Pinnick has not received money for accommodation in Abuja, despite travelling to the city several times every month for official functions. His predecessor collected a tidy sum for this.” 
A successful businessman before his love and passion for football took over, he is thechairman of the Brownhill Group with subsidiaries like the Brownhill Investment Company Ltd, Brownhill Construction and Engineering Ltd, Brownhill Properties LTD, Brownhill Coliseum, Brownhill Events Incorporated and BrownHill Marine and Offshore support services. His journey to the NFF began after a four year-stint as Chairman, Delta State Football Association. Against all odds, he won the NFF election in 2014 despite being pitted against heavyweights like sports business mogul, Shehu Dikko, and former NFF Secretary-General, Taiwo Ogunjobi. Pinnick went on to name Dikko as second vice-president. “The plan is to make genuine reconciliatory moves. I will personally go to Jos to see and speak to Chris Giwa because we all need to come together for the sake of our country and football,” said Pinnick. It was the first sign that he was not at the NFF to wage petty wars against real or phantom enemies. He won re-election in September 2018 and has promised to focus on youth development programmes and reconciliation, build a sustainable football culture for Nigeria, and continue the great march towards ensuring financial independence for the NFF during his second tenure.The post

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Dokubo. According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the suspension came following the numerous allegations and petitions surrounding Mr Dokubo.Read the statement below.Following numerous allegations and petitions surrounding the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the National Security Adviser (NSA) set up a Caretaker Committee to look into the activities of the programme, on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.Part of the Committee’s task is to ensure that allocated resources are properly utilized in consonance with government’s objective of alleviating problems in the Niger Delta region and stamping out corruption in the Amnesty Programme.Consequently, the NSA recommend to Mr President that the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Professor Charles Quaker Dokubo be suspended, a recommendation that has been approved and which takes immediate effect.The President has also directed that the Caretaker Committee set up to review the program should oversee the running of the programme henceforth, with a view to ensuring that government objectives are achieved.The post 
Former Real Madrid goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla, who currently plays for Leeds United has been banned for eight games following a five-month investigation into allegations that he racially abused Charlton striker, Jonathan Leko, The incident occurred during a corner kick in the Addicks' 1-0 win at the Valley in September 2019. Kiko, 33, reportedly called Leko, 20, a 'n*****' during a clash between them. On Friday night, the Football Association announced an eight-game ban for Casilla and fined £60,000 as well as ordering him to attend a face-to-face education course. 
An FA spokesman confirmed: 'Kiko Casilla has been suspended for eight matches with immediate effect, fined £60,000 and must attend face-to-face education after a breach of FA Rule E3(2) was found proven by an independent Regulatory Commission. 'The Leeds United Goalkeeper denied using abusive and/or insulting words, which were contrary to FA Rule E3(1) and constituted an 'Aggravated Breach', which is defined in FA Rule E3(2), as they made reference to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin, towards a Charlton Athletic player during an EFL Championship fixture on Saturday 28 September 2019.'
