Nigerian governors are secretly forming state security outfits - Gani Adams raises alarm
OPC leader and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has raised the alarm over the alleged secret recruitment of private individuals to form state security outfits. He accused some governors of the Southwest states of politicizing the issue of security of lives and property in the region and alleged that some governors are training their personal aides as special forces. Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Kwara State on Wednesday, October 30th, Adams condemned such training by some governors in the South-West without the knowledge of the inspector general of police or himself as the chief security of Yorubaland and leader of Oodua People's Congress. Describing the activities of the governors as unacceptable, Adams said he would not answer them if any security threat arose in Yorubaland. He commended the complementary roles between the police and the OPC on security matters, especially in the South-West, adding that stakeholders should support the collaboration rather than work against it.“Do you know that some South-West governors are recruiting their political errand boys for security purposes without consulting me or the OPC anymore? And when the issue of security threats comes, they will remember to call the Aare Ona Kakanfo to come and intervene.I’m not getting a salary from the government, but I’ve been using my money to run this position and our money for this organization. When a government politicizes security, it’s doomed to fail. It’s a signal to Nigeria. If there’s any security problem in the area, they should not hold me or the IG responsible.The IG has done his part by partnering the organisation with antecedents. But some of our governors want to politicize security issues. The trial of former Pension Reform Task Team chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina will continue on November 4, after a witness on the first day of trial revealead how she allegedly opened many accounts for him, his family members, and businesses. The witness Mairo Muhammed Bashir, business manager of UBA gave the testimony in court on Wednesday before Justice Okon Abang adjourned till November 4. Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, M.S Abubakar, Bashir informed the court that she is the business manager of United Bank for Africa, UBA and oversees the affairs of the Business Section of the bank, including sales, operations, generation of deposits, giving of loans to individuals and corporate bodies. She revealed that sometime in 2011, she solicited for fund from the defendant while he was the chairman of Pension Reforms Task Team and that Maina made a deposit of N3billion in the UBA which she said, was later transferred to the Treasury Single Account, TSA with CBN around 2012. To further grow the bank’s deposit base, the witness said she approached Maina for more deposits, prompting the defendant to open 12 accounts for himself and his immediate family members, which included two accounts for the defendant-one in Naira and another in United State Dollars. Also two accounts for the defendant’s wife and accounts for his daughters: Fauzial Abdulrasheed Maina, Fareeda Abdlrasheed Maina and Fadeela Abdlrasheed Maina. Testifying further, the witness told the court that she also opened accounts for the defendant’s companies which include: Faizal Farm (1), Faizal Farm (2) and Common Input Investment Property Ltd, which were also in Naira and Dollar denominations, adding that the defendant was signatory to those companies’ accounts. The prosecution tendered the account opening packages, and they were admitted in evidence, marked as exhibits A1-30. Maina meanwhile has sacked the team of his defence lawyers, which he presented upon his arraignment, last week, replacing it with a new team, led by Joe-kyari Gadzama, SAN. Gadzama informed the court that he was not ready to proceed with trial, having only been briefed the night before by Maina’s previous legal team, adding that he was meeting Maina, for the first time in court. Gadzama pleaded with the court for time to enable him go through the files and get a proper handover from the previous defence team. He sought for an adjournment, which the prosecution counsel opposed on the ground that it was frivolous. With Justice Abang, ruling in favour of the prosecution, the court proceeded with the matter, resulting in the evidence of prosecution witness. The matter was adjourned till November 4, 5, 6 and 7 for continuation of trial. Maina is being prosecuted on a 12-count charge that borders on money laundering, fraud and operating fictitious bank accounts.The post 
A woman was shocked when her mother produced the shoes she wore on her first birthday and dressed her daughter in it for school. @onyii_barbie had no idea the shoes she wore in 1985 still existed until her mother brought it out to dress her granddaughter in it. Sharing a photo of her wearing the shoe on her first birthday as her mother carried her and another of her daughter wearing the same shoe for school 35 years later, Onyii wrote: "Hmmmm na so I dey today as my mum dressed my baby girl for school today guess what I saw my mum wore my Ada(daughter) d same shoe I wore on my first birthday which was in 1985 this woman can keep things for Africa. I started out writing poetry when I was about 8 years old. Having started reading at about 3 years of age, I honed certain literary skills quite early in life, which braced me up for a life of writing and sealed my path in it. 4. What would you say makes a good story? One that captures the true essence of the reality of life from diverse perspectives; merged into one piece to paint a beautiful picture. A story that every reader could understand and relate to, drawing from it life lessons. 5. How many of your books have been published so far, and which is the most recent?Four books, and a short story. How did you feel your first book- Reflections was published? Reflections is a poetry collection that showcases the literary phase during my growing up years. So, I am more deliberate about when I write. I write during the daytime, and on weekends or vacations. Any day I commit to writing, I start off very early, because once I begin, I am often enraptured with the process and time literarily fades into the background. Call it passion. 
9. As an author, how has the journey been, up to this moment when your fourth book, The Rivers Frontier is published and set for release? It has been a journey of grace. Almost unbelievable to note that I hold down a full-time job, juggle motherhood and still commit to writing! I just keep moving forward and thanking God every step of the way! 10. If you were to describe your new book, The Rivers Frontier, in three words, what would they be? Treasure, Collector's Piece. 11. What do you enjoy doing outside of writing?Reading & Golfing 12. How long does it take you to complete a project? It depends on what stage of my life I was at, and the nature of the work. When I was a nursing mother or schooling, it took longer. A Twitter user, deperate to get rich, asked "Church of Satan" on Twitter how he can join the illuminati and he was schooled. @Alongeh2 tweted: "@ChurchofSatan How do I join the Illuminati?? I wanna get rich!" However, the @ChurchofSatan Twitter account advised him to get rich by applying himself. @ChurchofSatan replied: "Illuminati basically means “enlightened” so read a book, educate yourself and poof! At least 65 people have died and many more are injured in Pakistan after a packed passenger train blew up and burst into flames. The train erupted in a fireball after a gas canister being used to cook food exploded. The fire destroyed three of the train’s carriages near the town of Rahim Yar Khan in the south of Punjab province. 
Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed told Geo TV: "Two cooking stoves blew up. They were cooking, they had (cooking) oil which added fuel to fire. He added: "Most deaths occurred from people jumping off the train." 
Officials have said many more people are injured, some in a critical condition. Punjab health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid told AFP that more than 40 injured people were being transported to local hospitals. Authorities have warned the death toll could still rise, with the military drafted in to help rescue efforts.

A video which has gone viral on social media, captured an armed robbery attack which went wrong at La Gratitude Circle in Lonehill Sandton, South Africa. The viral video captured moment some thugs in a white Mercedes Benz pulled up on two white guys they wanted to rob. A Facebook group Nationwide Crime SA, disclosed that the men in the Benz followed the man when he was on his bike with his dog from Village Church. The robbery however took a different turn after the man the robbers tried to rob pulled a gun on them and started firing, making them flee the scene almost immediately. “The boom slowed them down. As I got home, I put my bike in my car port, park my truck inside. My son came out, took my dog inside.“They then came past in the white Mercedes, I thought It was neighbours or visitors to a few houses down from me,” the man told Nationwide Crime SA.The man said they then made a U-turn and came back parking quite aggressively and the passenger’s door opened.“The guy with a pistol in his hand got out, when I saw the gun, I knew it was a robbery, I drew mine and started firing. They then sped away. On the way out they crashed through the boom." Is it ever OK to leave your 3 day old baby at home to go party? This debate arose after Shay Mitchell was shamed for attending Drake’s birthday last week only three days after giving birth to her baby girl. Drake celebrated his 33rd birthday on October 24 and invited his celebrity friends to his lavish party. Pretty Little Liar actress, Shay Mitchell was one of those in attendance. But fans felt it was inappropriate because she had announced only three days prior that she welcomed a baby. Shay received a hefty amount of backlash as a result. "You partied three days after her birth...no respect," one Instagram user said to Shay. 
Shay replied the mommy shamers in a now-deleted video posted to her Instagram Story. She explained that, although she posted the announcement photo three days prior to partying with Drake and other celebrities, that wasn’t the actual day she welcomed her daughter to the world. She said: "I haven’t been really checking my comments that often, but apparently, people are really upset that I left three days after having a kid to go out and party." "It wasn’t three days and she was with [my dog] Angel, so…" she joked. She later took to Twitter to make it clear that she was joking about the child being under the care of her dog Angel. A Nigerian writer has narrated how she was duped by a fake real estate agent and how God compensated her eventually. @anafrricandiva revealed that in 2009 she made an initial deposit of N150, 000 to an agent for a mini flat, only to later discover that she had been scammed and the house had been rented out to dozens of other people too. She said she developed malaria immediately. However, two months after the incident, a friend of hers gave her a fully furnished 3-bedroom flat in Ikoyi to live in rent-free for five months. The Anambra State Police command has rescued two children who were abducted in Gombe State and trafficked to the state. Three suspects; Patience Opia from Cross River, Ejece Obi, from Anambra State and Blessings John from Bauchi State linked to the abduction which occurred while the children were playing in their parents' compound, were also paraded by the Anambra State Police Command. The State's Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed said the suspects planned selling each of the children for N750k before being nabbed. The principal suspect, Blessings John reportedly claimed that she was the biological mother of one of the children while the other one belonged to her late sister. 
It was however gathered that the kids recognized who their parents were after they turned up at the police station. The father of the rescued kids, Abdulaziz Suleman said they discovered their kids were found in Anambra through social media. Speaking to newsmen, Opia denied knowing the two kids were abducted and also had a price tag on them. The lady who hawks sachet water at the Onitsha main market said Blessing told her that one of the children was her child, while the other was her late sister’s child and that they needed somebody to help in training them in school. Opia added that she linked Ejece Obi with Blessing after a search. “I don’t know the lady apart from when she came to Onitsha and claimed that she was robbed by armed robbers. Also I didn’t know that there were price tags on the boys. I am just hearing about the N750,000 price for each of the boys. I am not aware of any intention to sell the boys,” she said.The post 
Twitter will ban all political advertising on the platform globally, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced. He made this statement on Twitter and explained that they'll be stopping every paid political ad because they "believe political message reach should be earned not bought". According to Jack Dorsey, paying for reach as regards politics "brings significant risks to politics, where it can be used to influence votes to affect the lives of millions.
