Historic 125-year-old church mysteriously burns to the ground in Texas
A Roman Catholic church that stood in Texas for more than century mysteriously burned to the ground with insurance adjusters placing the damages at $3 to $4 million. The 125-year-old Church of Visitation in Westphalia caught fire on Monday morning July 29th, just as congregation members were planning a celebration for the anniversary of its completion. Video and photos captured at the scene show the historic house of worship engulfed in flames with some residents reportedly seeing smoke from as far as five miles away. “It’s extremely difficult and painful to be here. I’m very deeply affected by this and I know the people here are also heartbroken", Joe Vasquez, bishop of the Austin Diocese said as the church was burning. Over 250 residents were said to part of the Visitation congregation. It’s unclear where they will be gathering in the wake of the fire. The church said it will be accepting donations to help rebuild. “This architectural beauty is now a loss and that’s what saddens all of us here” Vasquez added. ATF agents and the local State Fire Marshal’s Office were investigating the blaze Tuesday to see if there was any criminality involved. One of President Buhari's witnesses at the Presidential tribunal on Tuesday July 30, denied they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army. Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa (retd.) was led in as one of President Buhari's witnesses alongside Chief of Staff (COS) Abba Kyari and Suleiman Maiadua, a retired civil servant that said he graduated with Buhari in 1961. A highlight of Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa's testimony in court include denying they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army. Confirming that their medium of instruction after being enlisted into the Nigerian army in 1962 “was English language and English language alone", Tarfa also said that he and Buhari “passed the examinations in flying colours.” He identified some of those they enlisted into the Army with as Brigadier Ola Oni, Brigadier Duro Ajayi, Col. J. C. Ojukwu, the late Brigadier Abdullahi Shelem and the late Maj. Shehu Yar’Adua. When asked if they submitted their certificates to the Nigerian army while being cross-examined by counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission Yunus Usman (SAN), he said nothing like that happened. Usman: “You submitted all your school certificates to the Nigerian Army when you were enlisted?”Tarfa: “There was nothing of such.” Tarfa also said Buhari has authority over all military formations as commander-in-chief when cross-examined by Atiku's lead counsel Livy Uzokwu who thanked him for being truthful. Recall that President Buhari's secondary school certificate controversy made the headlines in 2015. He was presented with a WASSCE certificate in 2018 after insisting his credentials are still with the military and swearing to an affidavit wherein he told INEC they were with the military. The post 
A video going viral online shows Mississippi police officers harassing a black man and using brutal force on him. In the video, a police officer is seen pointing a gun at the black man while giving him conflicting instructions. The black man seemed afraid at this point and his girlfriend can be heard in the background warning him not to move at all so they won't have an excuse to shoot him. 
The girlfriend is then heard asking the officer which he wants; for her boyfriend to get on the ground or for him to get his license. Confused, the boyfriend put his hands in the air where the officer could see it. Soon another officer joins them and lunges at the African American man then begins to choke him. Both police officers then wrestled the man to the ground as he kept screaming that he did nothing. His girlfriend, who was filming, can also be heard screaming in terror.

A married man with children identified as Kula Adasu, yesterday committed suicide in the Tse Agabaragba area of the Konsisha Local Government Area in Benue State. Adasu's body was found dangling from a tree inside the bush in the area. According to family sources, the deceased might have committed suicide following a lingering family battle. A member of his family alleged that the deceased had been accused of killing one of their family members. Terseer Adasu. A 3-year-old boy from south-west China was miraculously saved after he fell from a six-storey building. The child was filmed desperately clinging onto a balcony of a building in Chongqing city's Jiulongpo district on Monday afternoon, July 29. Fortunately, residents noticed him and rallied around to save him. Some of the neighbours stood under him and waited to catch him if he falls. The child eventually got tired of holding on and he lost his grip and fell. Thankfully, the neighbours spread two large blankets below him and caught him before he could hit the ground. The child escaped unhurt. 
It has now been revealed that the boy had been home alone and woke up from a nap to find out his grandmother wasn't home. According to Shangyou News, she had gone out to get groceries but the child didn't know this so he began looking for her. His search led him to climb on top of a sink on his balcony and tumbled over the glass railing, leaving him clinging on for his dear life. Video filmed by neighbour Mr Liu shows the child kicking his legs and desperately trying to pull himself up. A security guard of the residential district told video news site Pear that the child had been holding on for nearly four minutes before letting go. The grandmother later arrived and took the boy home and his parents later took him to hospital.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, has confirmed the death of five Nigerian pilgrims currently participating in the 2019 Hajj rites in Saudi Arabia. Dr Ibrahim Kana, Chairman of the National Medical Team in the Commission, released the figure on Tuesday July 31st 2019, in Madinah from the commission’s National Medical Team Electronic Health Medical Records. While speaking to newsmen, Kana said some of the pilgrim died of various illnesses including heart and lung diseases. “So far, Nigeria has lost five pilgrims including three females and two males; out of which one died in Madina while the remaining four died in the city of Makkah. They all died of various illnesses including heart and lung diseases. Records shows that so far in both Makkah and Madina, we have made 10, 485 diagnoses with Makkah accounting for over 60 per cent. Additionally, 108 referrals were made to various Saudi Arabian hospitals after keeping 45 pilgrims on observation for variety of illnesses in the four facilities in Madina and another five in Makkah. In order to ameliorate the suffering of pilgrims, all the clinics are located within a stone throw to pilgrims’ accommodation in both Makkah and Madina,” he stated.The post

President Buhari's Chief of Staff (CoS) Abba Kyari in his testimony at the Presidential tribunal on Tuesday July 30, alleged that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar wasn't born a Nigerian. Abba Kyari was one of the three witnesses called in by President Buhari's legal team led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN) after they tendered 26 sets of documents. Giving his testimony after the PDP and Atiku closed their case on July 19 after calling in 62 witnesses, the CoS said Jada area of Adamawa State was still part of Northern Cameroon and referred to as French Cameroons as at November 25, 1946 when Atiku claimed that he was born. CoS Abba Kyari maintained that Atiku’s parents also qualified to be Cameroonians and further added that every child born in Jada and to Jada parents were automatically citizens of Cameroon by the French policy of assimilation and before the 1961 plebiscite was conducted. However under cross-examination by Atiku's lead counsel Livy Uzoukwu (SAN), Kyari confirmed that Atiku was vice president for eight years and also contested to be the presidential candidate of the APC in 2014. The CoS who said he is from Borno but not a Cameroonian also admitted not knowing Atiku’s grandfather and father even though he is 67 years old. Seun Kuti has blasted men of the Ogun state police command for arresting Daniel Elimuya pictured above, who was found with 17 sacks of Indian hemp. The spokesperson of the police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspect before newsmen, said he was arrested after policemen at the Ibafo Division got a tipoff that a car filled with the banned substance was on its way from Delta State and heading to Lagos. “At about 6:30 p.m, the team sighted the Ford car with registration number GGE 782 EX and stopped it. On searching the vehicle, 17 sacks of Indian hemp were discovered. This country is expecting the commencement of the delivery of Super Tucano fighter jets, very effective in this kind of warfare, beginning next year from the United States.The administration has embarked on an ambitious electronic/digital border monitoring scheme to curtail the porosity of the borders and, working with the UN agencies, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, donor agencies and friendly countries, has started providing solutions to backwardness in development and poverty in the sub-region because at the very heart of recruitment schemes of the terrorists lies the issue of poverty.A few weeks ago, the administration inaugurated the Northeast Development Commission, to fast track development and poverty eradication in the affected areas.The Buhari administration is strongly encouraged by successes recorded so far by our armed forces and the MNJTF, and is optimistic that in the same way as our military defeated the Boko Haram, so would the ISWA terrorism be defeated. Though grateful for life, @dollycent revealed that he was in coma after he drowned in 2011. He tweeted; On this exact day in 2011, I got drowned. And after 5 days in an unconscious state, 7 days in ICU. I miraculously woke up to a $245k medical bill. Thank God I survived

The Lagos State Government has allayed the fears of motorists over the planned four-month repair works on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, saying that adequate measures have been put in place by the present administration to effectively manage the impending traffic situation. The Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Transportation, Taiwo Olufemi Salaam, stated that in the project brief made available to the State Government, the repair works will narrow both Lagos and Sagamu bound traffic into two lanes on both carriageways respectively and is planned for two months each for inward and outward traffic from the State. He emphasised that Lagos is well prepared and ready for the attendant traffic situation through extensive traffic management and control for the repair works which commences on Saturday, 3rd August 2019 and is envisaged to trigger and compound traffic along the corridors. Salaam affirmed that the State has identified four locations to redirect traffic through, while the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) as well as Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will be on ground to provide towing vehicles and other necessary support for evacuating unexpected breakdowns. The Permanent Secretary explained that the area undergoing repairs will have floodlights and flashing lights placed in strategic places to aid vehicular movement at night, adding that having the whole area lit at night, apart from safety purposes, is also to ensure that Julius Berger completes the repair work within the stipulated period. He also highlighted other measures already planned by the State government to include the display of advance warning signs; day and night emergency response crew; dummy flagman to direct motorists and slip road provided on both sides of the carriageway. Salaam added that the diversion of traffic is also earmarked before the first bridge and that motorists coming from Kara will be diverted to the other side (outward Lagos) where an extra lane will be created; once work is done on that section, the same process will be replicated on the other side by creating an extra lane for vehicular movement. While assuring motorists of the readiness of the Lagos State government to effectively manage the traffic situation during the period, the Permanent Secretary solicited for the understanding and cooperation of all road users and urged everyone to obey all traffic officials and signs for the entire duration of the reconstruction.The post 
A British man managed to dodge security and climbed to the top of a ferris wheel in an amusement park in Italy where he stripped naked then jumped 150ft to his death. The man, understood to be in his 50s, took his life yesterday, July 29, in the Italian holiday resort of Rimini on the Adriatic coast. One shocked eyewitness told The Sun: ''It was horrible. He dodged security and then climbed to the very top of the wheel. It was a summer night and so the area was still packed with people. 'Once at the top he took his clothes off and then a few minutes later he jumped and as he came down he hit several part of the wheel which had been stopped by the operator. ''It was terrible there were loads of kids still around and they all saw what happened. The police and paramedics were at the scene pretty quick but there was nothing that could be done.'' 
A police spokesman confirmed the incident, saying: ''We are investigating the circumstances of how a British man in his 50s was found dead at the foot of the ferris wheel in Rimini. ''A file is being prepared for the local magistrate but there is no suspicion of anyone else being involved." The post 
Michael Nwaogwu, a security guard was remanded in prison custody after being arrested by the Lagos State Police and arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba for allegedly stealing from the offering box of a church. The security guard was arrested for stealing N2,385 from the offering box of the St. Dennis Catholic Church in the Akoka, Bariga area of the state. His arrest came after another security guard identified as Musa Ayay found out that the offering box had been tampered with. The money was allegedly found in his underwear after a search was conducted. Nwaogwu who was arraigned on one count of theft was granted bail in the sum of N30,000 with two sureties in like sum. The presiding magistrate, Oluwatoyin Ojuromi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant before adjourning the case till August 19 for mention. He is however to be remanded in prison custody until he perfects his bail conditions. The post 
Emma Aispuro Coronel, the wife of famous Mexican drug lord, Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera a.k.a El Chapo has gone on vacation two weeks after her husband was sentenced to life in prison, plus 30 years. Coronel has been sharing photos on Instagram from her vacation in Italy.She posted a photo taken on a gondola near the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. The 29-year-old also posted a snap of her Starbucks coffee and a piece of cake on her Instagram account with the caption: 'What diet?'
In the past week, Coronel has also shared pictures of El Chapo clothing line on Instagram.
Her trip comes less than two weeks after a federal judge in Brooklyn sentenced her husband El Chapo, 62, to life in prison, plus 30 years.
The 62-year-old drug lord was found guilty of 10 charges, including drug trafficking and money laundering, by a federal court in New York in February. Asides being handed a life imprisonment sentence on July 17, 2019, he was also given an additional 30 years for unlawful use of firearms. He was also ordered to pay $12.6bn (£10bn) in forfeiture. He however denounced his treatment, calling the trial unfair.

At least 57 inmates were killed in a bloody prison clash between gang members in Brazil. Footage from the Brazillian prison has now shown inmates playing football with the heads of rival gang members they killed. A fight broke out at the Altamira Regional Recovery Center in Brazil's northern Pará state at around 7am Monday, July 29 (read here). According to local reports, gang members from Block A stormed Block B, which was occupied by a rival group, locked a room and set it on fire, causing many prisoners to die of asphyxiation. 57 prisoners died in all and 16 of them were beheaded. During the 5-hour riot, some prioners - about 6 - were filmed on the roof of the jail, playing football with the bloody decapitated head of rival inmates. 
The footage emerged hours after the riot had been calmed. Military police were called to the scene and negotiated with the inmates who had barricaded themselves in a cell block. The riot comes exactly two months after 55 people were confirmed dead in a riot in the northern Amazonas state of Brazil in May. Monday's riot marked the second largest prison massacre in 2019.
